ACNH Film

I made this film for the National Videogame Museum Animal Crossing Diaries archive. The aim of the archive is to "collect histories of those who have been playing and living with ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ on the Nintendo Switch during the lockdown period." My film also adds in the perspective of someone recently diagnosed with M.E. and I hope it will help to spread awareness of the illness. It is the first film I have ever made so I hope you enjoy watching it! I was lucky enough to have the film included in the main exhibition - read my blog article about this here.

Wow! This is such a wonderful film! Way to go! I turned to gaming for the same reasons you have, as a way to help cope with my M.E. I have gotten into Minecraft (my son was interested in trying it so I was playing with him) but it’s triggered anxiety in me similiar to your experience of being chased with a net by a neighbour (mine is trying to kill Minecraft mobs). I’ve been looking for something new, vibrant and relaxing yet challenging and your video has convinced me to try out ACNH. It doesn’t look like it’s available on Apple products so I might have to add Nintendo Switch to my Birthday wish list!! 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing your story and congratulations on your video’s recognition!

Thank you, Tanya. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the film. Being chased by a Minecraft mob does sound a bit scary, so I think you’d find ACNH a lot more relaxing! The game is only available on Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite (and not on Apple). I’ve played every day since the game was launched so I’ve definitely got good value for the money! Wishing you all the best and do get in touch if you decide to play and would like to visit each other’s Islands! ☺️🌴

Such a touching, fun & vibrant way to share how chronic diseases affect every day life. I had tears welling up in my eyes
at one point! Thank you for sharing & happy gaming! Although I think your teenage son definitely inherited your gaming genes 😀

    Great little film! Loved it!
Having M.E myself, I too have found comfort in ACNH and its wonderful community. I’ve ploughed in well over a thousand
hours to pass my time, and I love it! Currently re-theming to Tropicore/beach resort to shake things up a bit lol.
I finally gave up my job over 3 years ago, and ACNH has been a Godsend for me, this past year.
So glad to hear someone else is enjoying it as much as me 💙

Lovely film, thanks for sharing. I have a rather parallel illness timeline to you Nov19 flu-like illness, diagnosed with ME in Apr20. Other than a couple of abortive attempts, I’ve not worked since. Have found iPad gaming to be one of my new (guilty) pleasures, given how little else one can do, even occasionally manage a bit of time on the PlayStation, which feels all rather special when it’s a genuine luxury to be able to do it.
Good luck with your journey and gaming.

Yes. Having M.E. does change your perspective on things. Make sure you allow yourself to enjoy the ‘guilty’ pleasures – you deserve them! Take care and all the best 💙😊

Brilliant film, well done. My 12 year old son played ACNH during the first lockdown but hasn’t played it since. I wonder whether he’d let me play it now he’s back in the real world and I’m still mostly stuck at home.

    Imaginative and fun film 👍⭐
I find movement on a screen affects me, great that so many people are finding it helpful.
I would normally spend a couple of months each year in my own paradise island. So I can understand how this helps you.
I am blessed to be taken on a walk along my favourite beach each day with the wonder of technology.
    Great work 💙

Amazing! You basically made a movie about me! I’ve been sick with me since 2017 and I got ACNH and a switch for myself for Christmas. It has truly changed my life. Can we share Dodo codes? 🙂
